Internships and Work Study

Internships and Work Study positions are ongoing and available to enrolled PAFA students only, if unfilled. Please contact Paola Morsiani at pmorsiani@pafa.edu.

Art administration and collection management

Students will gain experience by participating in a number of projects that are currently ongoing at the Brodsky Center at PAFA, including:

  • Documenting artworks, by assisting in inventorying the Brodsky Center at PAFA’s inventory
  • Managing and documenting of print and handmade paper editions, by assisting in the completion of documentation of recent editions
  • Writing website content, by assisting in this area as the Brodsky Center at PAFA transitions to a new website
  • Assisting with additional projects that may develop in the course of the internship/work study period, involving artist residencies, sales of art works, loan of artworks, client management, and advisory council management

When available, printmaking

  • For BFA and MFA print major only: assisting master printmakers and master papermakers who are producing Brodsky Center editions

GENERAL DETAILS

Internships and Work Study opportunities at the Brodsky Center at PAFA strengthen important areas of experience in preparation for life after college, including team spirit, communication, and stewardship of artists and of the arts and culture. 

Internships and Work Study jobs take place at the Brodsky Center at PAFA, located in room 620, on the 6th floor of the Hamilton building.

A minimum of 4 hours/week, with 2 absences excused maximum.

While there is no required dress code, we have the following requests:

  • Do not come with clothing that is wet or soiled with fresh media, or dusty, as it risks damaging the prints in our inventory.  
  • Students are required to wash their hands in advance of starting the internship session and handle prints with non-latex or cotton gloves.  
  • Drinks and food must be left outside of room 620.  

PREFERRED SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS FOR THESE POSITIONS

  • Students must be enrolled at PAFA.
  • Students who successfully apply to these positions will have demonstrated academic skills, punctuality, and a cooperative attitude.
  • Attention to details.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
  • Must have excellent professional demeanor, self-motivated and flexible.

Internships and Work Study positions in PAFA Art Sales department are available to enrolled PAFA students only, if unfilled. Please contact Grace Harmer at gharmer@pafa.org

Students will gain experience in the sale and marketing of works of art by assisting PAFA Art Sales Manager in a number of tasks that support sales of works by students and faculty and by artists in residence at the Brodsky Center at PAFA, including:

  • Researching potential clients
  • Researching online art sale platforms
  • Updating Brodsky Center’s online sales platforms including Artsy and PAFA website Shopify
  • Creating sale checklists
  • Preparing in person art sales and client meetings by installing display of works
  • Creating content for Social Media postings
  • Supporting Annual Student Exhibition Sales tasks
  • Packing prints for shipment
  • Scheduling shipments
  • Assisting with additional projects that may develop in the course of the work study period involving artist residencies, sales of art works, loan of artworks, client management, and advisory council management

Internships and Works Study jobs in PAFA Art Sales take place in the 3rd floor office of PAFA Art Sales Manager and the Brodsky Center at PAFA packing room located in room 622 on the 6th floor of the Hamilton building.

The Brodsky Center at PAFA James V. Nixon Jr. Award

Mission and Description

The Brodsky Center at PAFA James V. Nixon Jr. Award is given to a graduating MFA student in recognition of an artwork or a body of artworks exhibited at PAFA’s Annual Student Exhibition that embodies notions of exploration, experimentation, and boundary extension through its artistic vision. Works in all mediums and techniques are eligible. The recipient will use the cash prize at his/her/their discretion. The recipient is also awarded the opportunity to spend a day in the workshop of the Brodsky Center at PAFA to make new work in print and/or paper in collaboration with a master printer and/or master papermaker. No printmaking or papermaking experience is necessary. This award is named after PAFA Trustee and Brodsky Center Advisory Council Member James (Jim) V. Nixon Jr. (1959–2021) in celebration of his legacy of dedication to PAFA’s mission. The cash awarded to the recipient is in the amount of $2,000. First awarded in 2021.
