The Brodsky Center at PAFAWilmer Wilson IV (American, b. 1989) is critically recognized for his investigation of black bodies within everyday social fabric, with an emphasis no caring for, shielding, and elevating them, to eschew the fragility imposed by their exploitation in commodified postcolonial culture. “Area Not Ready for Her? is the first etching and silkscreen ever made by Wilmer Wilson IV, whose photographic practice nevertheless shares in thought-process and technology with printmaking. Wilson exploits the physical friction and expressive contract among the drawn, printed, and sculpted forms that come together in his often monumentally-scaled portraits of people of color. His work also includes performance and installation.
