Slyvia Sleigh subverts power dynamics within art, placing male subjects in traditionally female poses and roles. By substituting the male for female, Sleigh upends not only the female nude iconography, but also the conventional images of masculinity. She challenges art history, the male gaze, and the objectified female body.
