Artist: Spero, Nancy
Nancy Spero was an American painter and feminist artist. Her expressive work is characterized by its figurative interpretation of sociopolitical and cultural issues, often directly tackling racism, violence, and sexism in contemporary space. She received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1949, and honorary doctorates from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1991 and Williams College in 2001. Her work since the 1960s is an unapologetic statement against the pervasive abuse of power, Western privilege, and male dominance.
