Artist: Bowling, Frank

Bowling is from Guiana and works mainly in a combination of abstraction and figurative elements, including this portrait of his mother. His particular mark-making technique evocative of the sunset is visible in the lines and strokes over the photo etching. His work was recently featured in the touring exhibition Soul of a Nation, a groundbreaking overview of the influence of African American artists from the civil rights era on the history of art.
