Artist: Ganesh, Chitra

Chitra Ganesh interrogates traditional representations of gender and women. She especially addresses Indian culture, which shaped her upbringing. Her sources span literary and popular references, including ancient Indian art, contemporary Amar Chitra Katha comic book series on Indian mythology, Urdu poetry via Bollywood, and queer zine culture. Counter to canonical ideals of femininity, Ganesh emphasizes the messy, dissonant moments of desire, loss, and abjection.
