Save the date! On Wednesday, February 28 at 4:30 PM, the Brodsky Center at PAFA will celebrate the opening of “A Strong In-Your-Face Word: Works from the Brodsky Center at PAFA,” with a talk at Arcadia Exhibitions Spruance Gallery featuring curator Grace Harmer and moderated by Jennifer Manzella, adjunct professor, Department of Art + Design. 

For this conversation, Harmer will review her curatorial selections and how these works collectively embody an evolving comprehension of the term feminism delving into the influence of visual arts and expressing how these works collectively reshape our understanding of equality within the movement.

Additionally, printmaker Jennifer Manzella will lead a discussion with staff from the Brodsky Center about the various print and papermaking techniques utilized by the artists, with the Center’s guidance and support, to generate the works on display.

Immediately following, a reception with light refreshments will be held outside the Spruance Gallery. Both events are free and open to the public. 

“A Strong In-Your-Face Word” joins a host of exhibitions and events in Philadelphia organized to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1974 citywide exhibitions and programming entitled “FOCUS: Philadelphia Focus on Women in the Visual Arts,” led then and now by Philadelphia artist Diane Burko and artist, curator, writer, and activist Judith K. Brodsky.
